Terms and conditions

Written in plain English on purpose. If anything here does not make sense, ask us. Last updated 20 October 2026.

1. About these terms

These terms apply to the Payment package provided by JW Business Websites ("we", "us", "our"), a trading name of Jake Wells, sole trader. By asking us to build your website, or by taking the card machine after seeing it, you agree to these terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. Questions about them can go to [email protected].

2. The Payment package in one place

This block is the heart of the offer. The rest of this page explains it.

The terms, in full

  • Card machine £25 + VAT a month, paid to our payment provider.
  • Website, domain, hosting and one business mailbox included while you keep the machine.
  • Minimum term as set by the payment provider's agreement: 3 months for a sole trader, 18 months for a limited company.
  • Extra mailboxes £25 a year.
  • Stop the machine and we offer to keep the website live at £20 a month.

3. Seeing your website first

We build your website before you commit to anything. You look at it, ask for changes, and then decide. If you decide not to go ahead, you owe us nothing, and we delete the preview and any photos you sent us. We aim to have your website ready in a few working days, depending on how quickly you can send us what we ask for.

4. The card machine agreement

The card machine is provided by our payment provider, myPOS. Your card machine agreement is a contract between you and myPOS. We are not a party to it. myPOS decides whether to approve your application, sets the fees on each card payment, and collects the monthly payment for the machine. Its own terms apply, and you should read them before you sign.

We name myPOS here only because it is the other party to your card machine agreement. We are not owned by, part of, or a group company of myPOS, and we do not speak for it.

While your card machine agreement runs, we provide your website, domain, hosting and one business mailbox as described in section 2. If myPOS does not approve your application, the package does not start. We will talk to you about keeping the website that we built, if you want it.

5. Minimum term

The minimum term is the one set by the payment provider's agreement, which the provider confirms to you in writing: 3 months for a sole trader and 18 months for a limited company. We add no minimum term of our own. What happens if you stop the machine is set out in section 11.

6. What is included in the website

  • A website built for your business from a conversation with you, never a template.
  • A .co.uk or .uk domain name, registered in your name (section 8).
  • Hosting with an SSL certificate, so your website stays online and shows the padlock.
  • One business mailbox at your own domain (section 9).
  • Normal changes, without limit, under the fair usage rules in section 7.

Not included: online shops, booking systems built into your website, WordPress or page-builder sites, and listing or directory-style websites. If you want something like this, tell us and we will say whether we can do it and agree a price before any work starts.

7. Changes and fair usage

Before your website goes live, changes to wording, corrections, layout tweaks and swapping images are free. After it goes live, so are the everyday changes a small business needs: updated prices or opening hours, new photos, new services, fresh wording and corrections. You do not need to save them up. Send them in whenever you need them.

What fair usage means

Fair usage is about the overall amount and nature of the work, not a strict count of requests. It exists to keep the service fair for every customer, not to catch anyone out. As a guide, these would usually fall outside it:

  • A full redesign or rebuild, or a significant change of style or structure.
  • Extra pages well beyond what your website needs.
  • Very large volumes of changes, such as rewriting most of the content in one go, or constant daily updates.
  • Changing the same thing back and forth.
  • Technical work such as connecting systems through an API, custom integrations or new functionality.
  • Writing large amounts of brand-new content from scratch.

If a request goes beyond fair usage, we tell you before we start and explain why. You get a clear price, or we talk about ways to get what you need within the package. The work goes ahead only when you agree, and your normal changes carry on as usual. Nothing is ever charged without your say-so.

Linking your website to a system you already use, such as a booking tool, an online shop, a payment link, social media or a review platform, is free as standard. That covers buttons, links and standard embeds provided by the service.

How to send changes

Email [email protected] from an address we have agreed with you. Everything you send in one go counts as one request, so twelve changes in one message is one request with twelve items. To protect your website from changes by anyone who should not be making them, we confirm a request that comes from any other address with your business first, which can delay the update. You can add or remove agreed addresses at any time by telling us from one that is already agreed.

8. Your domain

Your domain name is registered in your name, and it belongs to you, not to JW Business Websites. While your package runs we register it, manage it and renew it for you. If you leave, the domain stays yours and moves with you, to your own account or to a new provider, free of charge and with no exit fee. If your domain is managed somewhere else, you give us access to its settings, or make the changes we ask for, so that your website and email can be connected to it.

9. Business email

One business mailbox, at your own domain, is included for as long as your package runs. Each extra mailbox is £25 a year, billed yearly in advance. We set up and manage your mailboxes through a third-party email provider, currently Zoho Mail, and moving your existing emails, contacts and calendars across is part of the setup where your current provider allows it. You can use your mailbox on your phone, in a desktop app or in webmail.

You can remove an extra mailbox at its renewal date by telling us at least 7 days before. Extra mailboxes are not refunded for part of a year. The email platform is run by the third-party provider, so we are not liable for outages, delayed or lost messages, or changes to the provider's own features, pricing or terms that are outside our reasonable control. We will do everything reasonable to get a problem resolved quickly. Using a mailbox for spam, bulk unsolicited mail or anything unlawful may lead to it being suspended.

10. Card rates

The provider charges a fee on each card payment. That fee is set out in the provider's agreement and is separate from anything you pay us. If you send us a recent card statement, we compare your current card rate and show what the provider's rate would cost. If it would not save you money, you owe us nothing. We never take card details on this website.

11. If you stop the card machine

If you stop the machine, or the provider ends your agreement, the website, domain, hosting and business mailbox are no longer included. We offer to keep your website live at £20 a month. You do not have to accept.

  • If you keep the website: we carry on hosting it and looking after it at £20 a month, and your domain stays registered in your name.
  • If you do not: we agree a date with you in writing before anything is taken offline. Your website is then taken down.
  • Your domain: it is yours either way. We move it to you or to your new provider, free of charge.
  • Your email: when your mailbox ends, we keep it for 30 days so you can take a copy of your emails, contacts and calendars, and we help you free of charge. After that, the mailbox and everything in it is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
  • Your content: we return the text, photos and logo you gave us on request.

Any charges for stopping the card machine early are set by the provider's agreement. They are between you and the provider, and we do not add to them.

12. Cancelling before the machine

If you cancel before your card machine agreement starts, nothing is due to us and we delete your preview and the files you sent.

13. Your content and responsibilities

We write your copy from what you tell us, so please make sure it is accurate and lawful to publish. If you give us photos or a logo, you confirm you have the right to use them. Respond to our questions reasonably promptly and give feedback on the draft in a reasonable time, so the website stays on schedule. Tell us if the people who act for your business change.

14. Ownership and our portfolio

You own your domain, and the logo, photos and information you give us. We keep ownership of the design and code of your website, and you can use the website for as long as your package or website plan runs. The underlying code structure and layout patterns may be reused as a starting point for other builds. Unless you ask us not to, we may show your finished website in our examples. If you would rather it was not shown, tell us and it will not be.

15. Liability

We take reasonable care and skill in building and hosting your website. We are not liable for downtime or problems caused by things outside our reasonable control, such as outages at third-party providers, email providers, domain registrars, linked services or internet service, or for losses that come from inaccurate information you gave us. Our liability for any claim relating to the work is limited to the amount you have paid us for it. We are also not responsible for the card machine, the payment provider's service or its fees; those are covered by your agreement with the provider. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, for example for fraud, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.

16. Data protection

Any personal data we collect is handled as set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

17. Complaints

If you are unhappy with any part of our service, tell us directly at [email protected] and we will put it right as quickly as we can. Complaints about the card machine or card payments go to the payment provider under your agreement with it.

18. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We tell customers with a live website directly about any significant change. The "last updated" date above shows the latest version. Changes do not alter the price or minimum term of a package you have already agreed.

19. General

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. They, together with the Privacy Policy and anything specifically agreed with you in writing, are the whole agreement between us. If any part is found to be unenforceable, the rest carries on as normal.
